Sometimes the day just runs away with you, and after finishing an 11 hour day at work, you realize you have neglected to plan dinner for tonight. Right? Well instead of calling the pizza delivery guy, why not cut half the cost and half the calories with this quick and easy alternative?
While your oven is heating to 400F, prepare your pizza by spooning a layer of sauce over the flat bread and sprinkling with chopped garlic. Add your toppings and sprinkle with cheese. Easy right?
P.S. I realize I should have probably chopped the ham instead of just ripping it apart, but lets just call it the rustic look, okay?
"Dude, it's shark week!"
"I know Dude, I haven't seen sunlight in 4 days!"
Are you watching Shark Week? How could you not, with Andy Samberg hosting and such great titles as "Shark After Dark"! I also can't pass an opportunity to catch some awesome South African accents when people are crazy enough to cage dive in my motherland. Speaking of which, how breath taking is this video below of a Great White at Seal Island (off the coast of South Africa) which shoots up from deep within the ocean and jumps completely out of the water in an attempt to nab a seal? WOW!
Glad I'm not a seal.
Growing up right by the sea, I am no stranger to sharks. We always had shark nets in the bathing areas of our beachs, except during the Sardine Run which can be a really dangerous time for divers and fishermen. And yes, we have Great Whites where I grew up! EEEEK!
In school, we used to take field trips to the Sharks Board where they would do dissections in front of us, sometimes resulting in some CRAZY stomach content.
I won't gross you out anymore.
My grandfather used to do some work for the Shark's board and would always have interesting shark teeth for us to look at and learn from which was so interesting.
While I do find them pretty damn scary, I have a big respect for sharks and think they are very beautiful creatures.
I am currently catching up on Shark Week with some repeated episodes during the day at work (I don't have cable at my house) But if it was later, or perhaps on a friday night, I would totally take part in this hilarious Shark Week drinking game.
You know you are living in America when you are heading out on a summer's night to a neighbourhood block party. Yup! Just like in the movies, kids.
Last night I attended my very first block party. It was a lot of fun getting to sit in the street, drink, eat and listen to some live music ranging from an Irish band who did amazing covers of Mumford & Sons to some amazing Salsa music which really got your hips shaking.
Such a fun night! Unfortunatly the hubby was working late, but I am excited to practise our Salsa moves and bring him along for the next one in 2 weeks time.
Six years ago I left you and I'm sorry to say, but I've hardly looked back.
It's not you, It's me!
I'm writing to let you know that I do miss you and have not forgotten you, even though America is now where I live, you will always be my home.
Love Kate
P.S. Send Biltong!
Dear New York
You have been my home for almost three years.
I heart you, and I even have a shirt to prove it.
Sometimes you annoy me with your traffic and high cost of living, but you helped me find the love of my life and even let us get married in your most famous park.
You know when you go to the store to pick up ONE item and about an hour later you have had to go get a bigger cart for the mound of stuff that you don't actually need can't live without? Last week we headed to Target to get a new vacuum cleaner. Not even a big one which might involve some decision making, but a simple, little dirt devil/dust buster type deal for our equally little apartment. Easy enough! This shouldn't take long! Well... If you have been to a Target lately, you would have noticed their super cool "back to college" sale where everything is so funky, super bright and colourful. Like a magpie, I am attracted to anything shiny and we ended up with a whole cart full of unnecessary items and a dwindling balance in our bank account.
The item I am about to showcase was one of the "it's turquoise, I need it now!" items.
How cool is this blender? And even cooler, was the price which was originally $24.99 and marked down to $17.99. Score! Ever since the purchase it has been 'Smoothie Central' around these parts. YUMO! Just the perfect drink for Summer.
So far I have become an expert at making "Strawberry, Banana, Kiwi & Blueberry" , "Banana, Mango & Pineapple", and "Strawberry, Banana & Pineapple" combinations along with yummy chocolate and mint chocolate chip milkshakes. (Goodbye Baskin Robbins!)
